  1. Research the Company Prior to your scheduled interview, be sure to do your homework and research the company. Having a thorough understanding of what the company represents will allow you the opportunity to sell yourself in an interview. Visit the company’s website and social media pages. Familiarize yourself with the company’s mission statement, history and services/products they offer. Social platforms will highlight what’s new within the company, while also providing insight into company culture.
  2.  Update Your Resume Be sure that your resume is up to date and that the information is both clear and organized. Bring several copies to your interview.
  3.  Review Common Interview Questions Practicing and preparing for commonly asked questions will help to prevent you from becoming tongue tied during your actual interview. Commonly asked questions might include the below: Tell me about yourself? What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 
  4. Dress for Success, Always dress professional—suited to the position for which you are applying—no matter how casual a company may appear. Clothing should be neatly pressed. Looking polished and put together will show respect for the company and your interviewer.
  5. Arrive on Time and Prepared, ALWAYS arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled time of your interview. Doing so will show your potential employer that you respect and appreciate their time. Showing up last minute is representative of an employee that will be unorganized. Be sure to bring a pen and notebook with paper to your interview. Jot down notes that you can later reference.
  6. Give a Confident Handshake, A solid handshake is a sign of self-assurance and will make a lasting impression.
  7. Relax and Be Yourself, Interviews are stressful—there’s no denying it. Rather than allowing yourself to become stressed, channel that energy into being the best professional version of yourself. Knowing that you’ve prepared to the best of your ability will instill and radiate an undeniable confidence.
  8.  Ask Great Questions, This is your opportunity to learn valuable information about the company and/or the position that you are interviewing for.  The questions you ask will emphasize and express your interest in the company.
  9.  Inquire About Next Steps, As the interview comes to a close, be sure to ask about next steps in the hiring process. Doing so will reinforce your interest in the position and will also provide you with a timeline as to when it’s appropriate to follow up.
  10. Send a Thank You, Thanking your interviewer for his/her time and consideration is both professional and polite. It’s a sure way to keep your name on their radar.
